San Marco Theatre
Built in 1938 by a nationally recognized architect - Roy Benjamin (who also built the beautiful Florida Theatre). When designing the San Marco Theatre, Benjamin, having to keep up with current trends, dropped the Moorish, Spanish and Italianate designs and converted to Art Deco. Painter Davis Cone felt compelled to paint the theatre and include it in his bookPopcorn Palaces. Not only is this theatre featured in his book, but it was recognized by USA Today as one of the ten best classic cinemas in the USA.
